The Zook family has suffered heart wrenching tragedy, not once, but twice. The oldest daughter, Kate. takes on responsibility and guilt for both life-changing events, feeling that she could have, and should have prevented both accidents. Samuel Esh shows interest in Kate but her feelings of guilt and shame prevent her from allowing herself to believe that he may want anything more than simple friendship. The Amish countryside is portrayed with picturesque descriptions of farms and fields that line the country roads. As the seasons change the atmosphere comes alive with new growth in the spring, to the fields being harvested in summer. Each of the characters in this story are carefully defined, solid and relatable. Their emotions are tangible and shaped with sensitivity and poignancy."An Amish Buggy Ride" is a beautifully told story that intensifies much like a musical composition, building in intensity as a crescendo to the grand finale. I was swept away in this inspirational story and felt it become a part of me. I will undoubtedly read this book again and again. I highly recommend "An Amish Buggy Ride!"I've been reading Sarah's books since she began writing, with her first book, "Fields of Corn." Those early books were filled with depth and detail. Her most recent works have become outstanding in their depth of character and the wisdom she imparts. Scripture and spirituality are blended into these beautiful Amish stories in a most natural inspirational process.Disclaimer: Thank you to Chautona Havig for gifting me with a copy of this book, with no expectations for a review. From the very beginning, M's Price's book brought me in to the story. The story is about Kate Zook. She loves her family and she loves God. Kate is a very caring and supportive daughter. Two tragedies happen in her family and Kate is wracked with guilt over what she felt was her role in the tragedies. Her one brother was left paralyzed in one of the tragedies. His resentment and personal bitterness is focused on Kate. Consequently she strives to be more determine to help her family. Her parents are withdrawn from dealing with their own pain. This leaves Kate to shoulder her brothers anger, rage and accusations . Then Samuel Esh, a local young man, returns from his own wild rumspringa. He is attracted to. Kate and her loyalty and gentle ways. What will be Samuel's impact. I loved this story. This is the BEST Amish fiction book I have ever read. The story is well thought out and will touch everyone and make you think about the reality of our actions, personal forgiveness, God's forgiveness and healing. Thank you M's Price for this book.
An Amish Buggy Ride is a fast-paced novel about a young Amish woman named Kate who keeps a secret for her brother that ends in tragedy. Katie is determined to make things right by caring for her brother, David, and helping her family by taking on extra chores. This only serves to create anger and tension between David and her family until a young Amish man named Samuel steps in. As tension and resentments grow, Katie must find a way to forgive herself or lose the possibility of love forever.Sarah draws you in right from the beginning of the book and keeps you enthralled right to the end. It is a book that is very hard to put down! Her descriptions of both the characters and the setting creates the perfect picture in your mind; you feel as if you have been transported and are watching the story as it is happening. Sarah’s authentic use and knowledge of the Amish culture makes the story very believably authentic. The characters Sarah creates in An Amish Buggy Ride are very real, believable characters whose struggles the reader can understand and empathize with. Her characters also give the reader a real life application of Biblical principles such as giving grace and forgiveness. An Amish Buggy Ride is not only a great read but leaves the reader feeling encouraged. If you are looking for a great Amish read, look no further. This is not your typical Amish sappy romance, but a great piece of literature that leaves you wishing there was more!Sarah’s family settled in Pennsylvania when the first wave of Mennonites emigrated from Europe in 1705. She divides her time between her home outside of New York City and an Amish farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where she writes and reconnects with her Amish friends and Mennonite family. Sarah Price is one of my favorite authors. I love her books! I love that they are clean, honor God, and are hard to put down. They're easy reading and very enjoyable. Her characters are some of the most realistic I have ever read about! I refrain from telling anything about the story in my reviews because I don't want to spoil it for other readers. Read it! You'll enjoy it!
This novel seemed to give a realistic portrayal of Amish farm life today. Hard work, faith in god, and acceptance of everything that happens in life as part of God's plan. Stunted emotions, compared to those in the outside world. The main character keeps her guilt bottled up inside, and never really fights for what she wants. It's a very different mind set. The emotions held by the principal characters are somewhat nuanced despite the either-or, black-white nature of their interpretations. A nice romance, ultimately, and some important lessons learned.
Well developed story of love, quilt and forgiveness. By accepting total responsibility for the wrong actions of another, both parties were living in sadness.
