The NG Readers are great for kids. My 3 year old loves them. I read level 2 to her, and I learn a lot as well! This is one of my favorites from the series. There is so much I never knew about bees.

The best series ever for young readers. It is very hard to find books for young readers that are based on the natural world. The photos are beautiful, the storyline is full of accurate, interesting, scientific facts about the creatures, and has a vocabulary building review at the back of the book. And each book in this series has several upside down jokes that reference the animal, an added point of interest for Montessori and all children. BTW, I have gotten more than 30 of these books for my classroom. Highly recommended!

I think everyone needs to teach their kids about the bees, and how to save them. My husband is a bee keeper so this book was essential for our home library for the kids. Lots of pics and great facts.

Concise, not overly wordy. Teaches younger children a lot about honeybees and the pictures are first rate! A great tool for teaching children the importance of the honey bee. I highly recommend.

I purchased this book for my grandson who is 5. He loves to learn about the insects and birds he sees around him. This book will be easy for him to look at the great photos and for me to read to him as well.

A bit too much for this age of kids unless it's someone who had grown up around bees. Pretty good pictures, could use some more simplification of the more complicated terms

This is s great book on the basics of bees. My 4 yo loves it.

This is a wonderful book on learning the basic information on bees. The pictures are wonderful and quality and clear. It's good for anyone's library on animals and insects.

I cannot stand reading these stories to my hospice patients. Some were okay some were HORRID. I finally gave up and just started reading "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Sharyn McCrumb - we live in Appalachia - and am much happier. I think my patients are, too. Readers Digest would have been more satisfying than this. I love to read and to be read to. These were poorly written and difficult to get excited about.

Perfect for my work environment

I had hoped the stories would be shorter, more like one or two pages.

very nice book

I purchased several books for the care workers at a nursing home to read to the residents. These books fit the bill - short stories, interesting stories, stories aimed at seniors.

Nice book for the elderly.

Bought this for a caregiver to read to an elderly couple. They enjoyed being read to very much and the stories were entertaining.

This is one of the best books for caregivers to have. The stories and articles are short enough to be read at a sitting, and the sort an elderly person would like because they are respected as adults and are treated as such.

Review

There is a reason these books are getting 5 star reviews - they are SO HELPFUL. I started reading the Book of Mormon for the first time, and although I could read it and thought I was getting through it fairly well, I realized pretty quickly that there was a lot of symbolism and more going on with the text than I was getting or understanding. I read reviews on these books and purchased the first one, not knowing what to expect. It has helped me so much!!! As I suspected, there is so much "more" going on in the Book of Mormon and so much symbolism I NEVER would have gotten on my own no matter how many times I would have read it. I have quickly purchased the other 2 books in this series, as well as another book by this author about Mormon beliefs and doctrines. The entire text of the Book of Mormon is in these books, but with helpful notes and explanations so that I understand it. I can see myself reading these books and referencing them many times in the future. If you are completely new to the Book of Mormon like I was, in my opinion, you NEED this. Even if you've read the whole Book of Mormon before, I still think you are going to get new insights from these books. --AmazonI love this guide! I love that is lists the scriptures and then either inserts emphasis, summaries, explanation, etc within the scripture or after it. It really helps to break it down and come back together to make sense is my crazy brain! I highly suggest it to anyone wanting to get a deeper understanding of the scriptures but also how it applies to your life today. It deepened my testimony of Christ because I was really able to see more significantly how much Christ is present throughout the Book Of Mormon. I can't wait to read the other ones! --AmazonDavid Ridges is a master teacher. His classes at BYU Education Week and at the Orem (Utah) LDS Institute have been the best I have ever attended. Very instructional AND interesting (even Isaiah). I could listen to him teach all day. So I was thrilled when he wrote these books. Plus, Ridges' insights make it a lot easier to "liken the scriptures" to ourselves. We use Ridges' commentaries every day in our scripture study. I have the Kindle and print versions. I turn on the Kindle text-to-speech, and we follow along silently in our books or on the Kindle screen as the voice reads to us. We can pause any time for discussion and then resume listening. A great way to study. My only suggestion is that on the next printing, the layout be slightly modified to offset long quotations (such as other scriptures) in a box, or italicize them so that it's easier to tell what is the main text. --Amazon

I really enjoy how this brings out so much from the Book of Mormon. I read the scriptures through using the study guide from the Red Headed Hostess, reading one of those pages and the section of the Book of Mormon it relates to, taking notes and answering the questions she poses.I then read the same section of the Book of Mormon the next night, using this study guide "The Book of Mormon Made Easier", in conjunction with "The Book of Mormon Study Guide: Start to Finish" by Thomas R. Valletta.Using those three study aids has made reading the Book of Mormon an excellent experience. To actually study rather than just reading has been a great benefit to me and a wonderful testimony builder. I highly recommend all of those study aids.

I have found this series of books by Brother Ridges to be very helpful to me as I read the scriptures from day to day. The addition of his commentary and the verses out of the Joseph Smith translation, in the case of the Bible, have been great aids to my understanding.

This is a 5 star book! Bro. Ridges gives valuable insights and many "take aways."With this book, you can really "study," "ponder," and "gain insights," while reading The Book of Mormon. We will be blessed, in studying these particular scriptures, as we saw the Spirit, work within our by our Prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Thomas S. Monson. At last conference, he instructed each one of us to read The Book of Mormon everyday.I would recommend this book to all, members and non-members alike. Now, I'm off to download the next book. There are 3 books in this series.Thank you Bro. Ridges!

David Ridges is a master teacher. My only suggestion is that on the next printing, the layout be slightly modified to offset long quotations (such as other scriptures) in a box, or italicize them so that it's easier to tell what is the main text.

Love this book! I really needed something to re-energize and kick start a more in-depth study of the BOM for me. It is simple, easy and basic reading while also providing added insight and thoughts that help me see the stories and principles from an new view point. A must buy for anyone wanting to learn more without the over complicated doctrinal books.

This series by David Ridges has been a huge help to me as a Sunday School teacher. Most of the original text is included with commentary and explanation right along with it. I have the Old and New Testament as well. The only negative is having to buy 3 books to get the whole Book of Mormon. I would probably have preferred using it as a companion and not including as much original text so it wouldn't be so expensive but at least it's paperback.I like it so well I recommend it to friends and family. I would suggest it for anyone who wants to better understand the Book of Mormon. The commentary is plain language but deep meaning.

It further increases my appreciation and testimony of The Book of Mormon. I am now also reading The Doctrine and Covenants Made Easier and have read The New Testament Made Easier. There is so much insight and background provided, I have and increased eagerness to read and study the scriptures daily. I am now giving these as gift to my family members.

Many additional bits of information that helped me understand the dialogue more fully. Also the book points out forms of literature within the Book of Mormon that a "normal" reader like me would pass over without recognizing. The "Isaiah chapters" are much more understandable with his explanations. It also points out small things that Joseph Smith could not have possibly known himself that strengthened my testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Worth having as a study guide for sure.

At the end of 2013, I went back and read the entire Brian Michael Bendis run on Avengers (which included New Avengers, Mighty Avengers, Dark Avengers, Illuminati, and several cross-over books). I think binge-reading a series of comics is as equally satisfying as binge-watching TV shows (this only applies to the Wire, Deadwood, Rome, Breaking Bad & Game of Thrones). This collection takes place in the middle of the absolute zenith of the Bendis run - the two New Avengers books that are supplements to the Skrull Invasion book contain some of the best Marvel stories ever written. In 2004, Bendis took an Avengers book that was stale and more than a decade from good story-telling. His first story arc was Avengers: Disassembled. The Scarlet Witch went crazy and killed several members. The eventually subdued the Scarlet Witch, Magneto shows up and takes her away and the the team decides to disband.A few months later there is a break-out at Rikers Island and dozens of villains escape. Spiderman, Captain America, Wolverine, Daredevil, Jessica Drew and Luke Cage all show up to put things in order. Steve Rogers decides that it was fate and he convinces Tony Stark to reboot the Avengers. Daredevil declines, but everyone else is in. They also happen upon a mysterious man known as The Sentry.600+ kids die in a tragedy caused by young, untrained heroes in Stamford, CT. The US Government responds by passing the Superhuman Registration Act. Tony Start is for it. Steve Rogers is against it. The heroes split and fight in a Civil War. After its conclusion, Rogers is killed. Luke Cage becomes the leader of the New Avengers, as they try to do good works while avoiding Tony Stark's Mighty Avengers. Luke's Avengers go to Japan to help Echo deal with Elektra and the Hand. During the ensuing battle, Elektra is killed....and it is revealed that she is a skrull. Jessica Drew takes the body, against the wishes of the rest of the team, to Tony Stark. And the Skrull Invasion has begun...In this trade, there are a few interesting storylines/features:(1) The story of how the Skrull Captain America was created and why he thinks he is Cap(2) The final story of how the Skrull scientists kept trying to figure out how to make the Skrulls undetectable on Earth (thus evading Spiderman, Daredevil, Dr. Strange, Richards, Stark, Wolverine & Xavier). It is, in my opinion, the greatest Reed Richard story ever told. It captures his intellect and character incredibly well. But to appreciate this story, you must know the backstory of the Fantastic Four, the New Avengers and the Illuminati trade.(3)The Skrulls reaction to House of M. This is handled brilliantly. Queen Veranke and Skrull Hank Pym awaken to the world of House of M and they are completely horrified. This makes the invasion so much harder. In discussing why the humans haven't revolted against this false reality, Veranke offers up this gem, "And if this proves anything at all...It's that as long as they are left alone to eat, sleep, watch their tv and fornicate, most of the human race will go along with whatever they are told to do." Biting social commentary.(4) How Parker Robbins discovers that their is a Skrull Invasion.Looking back at Bendis's entire Avengers run, a few things become very clear:(1) He is the definitive writer of a number of heroes:(a) Daredevil - obviously...his early 2000's run on that book was incredible and built on the seminal work of Frank Miller the way no other writer was able to(b) Spiderwoman - she was a 3rd rate hero in the 70's and forgotten by the 80's. Bendis brought her back and gave her a great story. His Spiderwoman solo books are also very good.(c) Luke Cage - Bendis has made him an A-list Avenger and Marvel character(d) Spiderman - Bendis does a great job with this universe's Spiderman, but his defining character in all of comics may be Ultimate Spiderman(e) Reed Richards - The leader of the FF (and the smartest man in the Marvel Universe) makes a lot of appearances during the Bendis Avengers run (he is also a star of "An Oral History," but more on that later). Bendis handles Reed better than any other writer I've come across. I'm very much looking forward to the day in 2019 when Marvel announces that Bendis is going to write the FF. The Reed Richards story in New Avengers, Vol. 9 is an all-time great story. There are other characters that Bendis handles brilliantly, including Captain America, Iron Man, Iron Fist, Hawkeye, Dr. Strange and Wolverine. Finally, a great companion piece to these Avenger books is Bendis's "An Oral History of the Avengers." He has the Avengers talk about their history (60's through 80's) in a reality tv confessional booth type of format. It's amazing.

I was a bit disappointed in about half of these "New Avengers" volumes after having high expectations of Bendis, but this volume really tells one of the best stories of this run. You should read Secret Invasion before reading this though, as this mostly deals with the aftermath of that event. This was a great way to begin the "Dark Reign" era for the Avengers, in which Norman Osborne (the former Green Goblin) has his own team of Avengers under the government umbrella and the New Avengers are on the run from the law. We see the New Avengers reassembling after the events of Secret Invasion with leftover trust issues still lingering while they figure out what comes next, and at least one moment that literally made me laugh out loud when the New Avengers take a look at the roster of Osborne's Avengers when they make a TV appearance. Most of this story deals with Luke Cage going to great lengths to get his daughter back from the Skrull who kidnapped her at the end of Secret Invasion. Coming from someone who has grown to really love the character through his appearances in the Daredevil books from Bendis and Ed Burbaker as well as New Avengers, I liked seeing this side of Cage.

This story is basically a justification about why the Sentry exists for the past 60 years without ever being talked about. It’s basically introducing a new Superman character into the Avengers when it didn’t need one.As an introduction story it’s really not that compelling. The writing leans more toward pitying the Sentry rather making his backstory compelling. He’s basically an all powerful super hero above all the other all powerful super heroes, except that his only backstory is that he was forced to forget his backstory... which if that sounds confusing and superfluous, that’s basically how I feel about him as a character. The story is weak, dialogue is ok, and the art is a little more Aeon-Fluz than I’d like. In summary I’ll say that comparison to “the Breakout,” which precedes this story, you can skip this story, not miss a beat, and feel better for not having wasted your time.

I sometimes wonder if Bendis was given the task of writing this book while being told by the higher-ups at Marvel that it had to include certain characters like Wolverine and Spider-Man. That can be a tough task, but Bendis does a great job getting the individual personalities right and giving each character a role to play in the overall story.Though that is a highlight, the downside here is that there seem to be a few random things going on here (such as an apparent symbiote infestation?) that never really get explained but only show up to further some other purpose in the arc. Maybe they were events from other titles crossing over. I don't know. The main focus in the second half of this collection is decent, however, as the Hood makes his move with his assembled villains, though the only ones other than Hood who get much face time are the Wrecking Crew and, to a lesser extent, Jigsaw. This is worth reading if you want the lead-up to Secret Invasion or if you want to complete the collection of this run. Not essential reading to the big picture though.
