Accurate, fun, easy to read.
This book is not bad. It has small bite sized chunks of information on a wide variety of topics in economics. I think the design of the book is quite attractive, with a good selection of images, charts, graphics etc. The author tries to stay relatively impartial, and present both sides of the argument on contentious topics. However the perspective is relatively orthodox. The author often illustrates his arguments with the standard supply / demand curves, but I'm wondering if they might be confusing to people without any economics knowledge.If I have any criticisms of this book, it is probably who the target audience is ? People familiar with economics are unlikely to find much new, and those who don't know any economics might prefer a more indepth discussion.Some of what the author says might enrage people who have a particular strong commitment to some school of economics such as fans of Friedrich Hayek. Also generally speaking economics isn't always as simplistic as introductory textbooks would have you believe. People might take issue with some of the facts presented in this book on controversial and politicized topics such as immigration, where the author basically argues that immigration has no effect on local workers and boosts jobs to the same degree as the increase in labour supply. Contemporary economics research in some countries can sometimes show a different conclusion. See for example books like George Borjas - "We Wanted Workers".Nevertheless I think this book is worth reading for those looking for a brief discussion on various economics topics.
