Her Prodigal Cowboy is an Interesting take on the parable of The Prodigal Son. However, this book suffers from some serious editing/writing issues and really is not ready for print. The premise is basically a love triangle between brothers Walter and Arthur Brooks, with neighbor Laura Anderson as the love interest. They have all grown up together and are fond of each other. Laura is kind and beautiful (of course), Walter is studious and hungry for wealth and Arthur is a disenfranchised wastrel. You know immediately with whom Laura will marry, you just have to take the journey to get there. However, as I said, there are some very serious problems with this novel.First, there are several things that would not have happened in that time period that were put into the book.1. There is NO WAY a wagon train could get from New York to Idaho in 2-3 months. It would at the VERY LEAST take 5-7 and that is with good travel time. A wagon train could potentially travel 10-20 miles per day, depending on conditions. It is 2,449.2 miles from New York to Idaho. Let's split the difference and divide 2,449.2 miles by 15 miles a day. That is 163.28. Then divide by an average month of 30 days. That comes to 5.45 months. And that is NOT taking into account bad weather, broken equipment, water hazards, bad terrain, attacks of any nature and other issues.Apparently, they had some REALLY FAST wagons.2. Young ladies of Laura's class or station of that time did NOT yell/call across a street to anyone. Friend or otherwise. And they CERTAINLY did not say "Hey Walter" or "Hey Arthur" at any time. They also ALWAYS wore gloves, a hat and had a chaperone of some kind when out of doors or on visits. Laura would also not have been allowed at all to travel across the country either without a chaperone or being married before she left. It would have completely ruined her reputation. If she were of a lower class or a working class, maybe. But not a Society Belle of New York. Her status was firmly established as that in Chapter One.3. The Brookes family spoke as if they were cowboys in the West. I really don't think they would have, being wealthy and living in New York city. There speech mannerisms seemed diametrically opposed to where they lived.5. Also, pretty sure these young men when grown, would not refer to their fathers as "daddies".6. It seemed like they ate cornbread quite often. That was highly unusual to me, again for their wealth, status and where they lived. As far as technical writing issues, there are many. Most annoying were the constant run-on sentences. There were no commas where there should be commas and commas where there should be periods. Page after page after page. For example the author wrote: "It is indeed, all this dust hangs heavy in the air, come and sit with me Laura, let the men discuss business," It SHOULD be; "It is indeed. All this dust hangs heavy in the air. Come and sit with me Laura, and let the men discuss business." Poor, poor, poor sentence structure all through the book. The author also ends far too many sentences incorrectly with prepositions. For example: "....daughter she had secretly longed for" instead of ".... daughter for which she had secretly longed." Or "....would create a tension he would prefer not to be a part of." instead of correctly ".... would create a tension of which he would prefer not to be a part."There are too many of these mistakes to count. What is "teaching the ABC"?? Poor editing.I hate to be so tough, but I literally lost interest in the book after the first chapter. I even emailed the author to see if I should send my review to her first before I posted.I honestly do not understand the good reviews. Either they are friends of the author, do not care how a book is written or have absolutely no understanding of good writing.I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an excellent read. It was very well written. The author gets her idea for the book from the story of the Prodigal Son from Luke 15. However she makes the story her own. It is not similar to it at all. I am glad that she did that. It made her story very interesting. It too has a moral to the story. This is the story of two brothers that could not be more different. The two brothers are Walter and Arthur. Walter is very good at academics and studiously follows in his Father's footsteps as an engineer and takes over the company that his Father and his friend created. When the Father ran the company it produced engines for trains and helped to establish the railroad in America. Walter moves the company in the direction of providing engines for ocean lines making travel easier and quicker between the United States and England. Arthur has no direction really doesn't know what he wants to do with himself. He is not really good at academics and doesn't enjoy the type of work that his father did or his brother does. He also has an imagination and dreams of life in the West. As children growing up they had a very close friendship with Laura Adamson daughter of their Father's partner in Business. Laura shared the interest of both brothers so enjoyed a friendship with both. However Laura seemed to lean towards Arthur in her friendship although it wasn't so obvious when they were young. From very young the 2 boys competed. It was probably seen as more of a competition by Walter. However as Walter gets older he becomes more domineering in his relationship with Laura. Laura had gone to Walter for assistance in a matter involving her Father and in the process of giving Walter a hug for his assistance with the problem involving her Father. Arthur sees this and misinterprets what it means.Arthur decides he needs to make changes in his life and heads to Idaho to obtain a land grant. Things don't go well as he tackles trying to make the land productive. He and Laura attempt to write one another to share their feelings; but Arthur intercepts their letters so that all communication between Arthur and Laura are prevented. This is a very well written novel that is inspirational. Arthur finally straightens up his life and exercises his faith. He is able to overcome. It is also a story about second chances and forgiveness.

OMG! Wow. Man, I don't know if I have the words to describe this incredible adventure. A whirlwind of emotions and events that feed from the excitement and nerve racking tension that brings this bad boy roaring to life flawlessly. All twists and turns, ups and downs, along with a few glitches and bumps here and there pull you deeper into this raging storyline and hard hitting plot. Throw in all the drama, intrigue, uncertainty, fear, danger and suspense, you have one intense, page turning bombshell that grabs your attention and holds it from start to finish. The characters are complex and so believable it feels like you can just reach out and touch them. The scenes are so graphic and detailed it really pulls this bad boy together beautifully. The scenes are so realistic you have no trouble picturing every scenario as it plays out perfectly. Chloe definitely nailed this bad boy 100% on point with such realism that it makes for one thrilling experience. Remarkable job Chloe, thanks for sharing this bad boy with us.

I really enjoyed this retelling of the story of the Prodigal Son found in the new testament. Two brothers, Walter and Arther, and a childhood friend, Laura, make up the main characters. I appreciate how the author allows the older brother to become hardened and manipulative making it easier to side with Arther, the younger son who feels he never measures up. A long journey from New York to Idaho, sees Arther trying to make a new life. But the question is, does Laura care about him? He fails to receive any corrapondance, and after two long years, journeys back home to find out where he stands with his family and Laura. The story is well told and will keep you turning the pages.I received an ARC of this book. My opinion is my own.
