First, yes it has a "violent" act in it that another reviewer complained about(hope they never saw looney tunes). I took a picture of that page for you to decide for yourself how it may affect your purchase.Second, my 2 kids enjoy the story even though it is out dated. We talk about astronauts and space. Especially with Mars being the next place to send astronauts its fun to read. It is a fun educational way to bring up things that happen in space (no oxygen, freezing temperatures)Lastly, the book is about Mickey and Donald building a space ship to win to be on the moon first. Peg leg Pete overheard them talking about it and followed them. That night he stole their spaceship. When they rode out to get the spaceship they jumped in it before Pete came back and took off to the moon. They had only 2 spacesuits they made to fit them on board. While in Space Pegleg Pete came out and started causing problems. That's when Donald whacked him on the head. They took care of Pete and made sure he didn't freeze and would have enough oxygen to get back to earth even though it affected their own oxygen amount. They continue their mission to the moon before returning to earth. They make it back to earth safe and become famous.
I had read another review that did not like this book because of the "violence" it contained. What? the bad guy got clobbered over the head? That was it and it was done to subdue him. They did everything else to save him after that. This certainly was no way near Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner and other cartoons that feature nothing but continuous violence. So I say, get over it. Otherwise the book was cut and very much in the mode of imaginary space travel that kids of the 50's were excited about. I liked it for it's nostalgia value, but just thought the ending was too abrupt , there was no lesson learned, no moral to the story; but at least (spoiler alert) the bad guy got home safe.
We bought this this to try with Google home. Very cool.
Cute story but not super interesting. There’s not much of a plot. Just Mickey and Donald building a rocket and Pete sneaks in and they just take off, circle the moon and try to get Pete back safely. Not very fun but still cute pictures and a Mickey story!
