first of all, I love this book. it turned out to be more than I was expecting. the art is great even in black and white. I like how the author included references to the stories in the bible to expand the readers understanding of the stories. for the most part I feel that the biblical account was treated very respectfully with this being am attempt to put a new perspective on it.the only real concern I have is a few instances of nudity. I completly understand that the bible deals with some pretty heavy stuff, specifically speaking of the old testament right now. there are stories of adultery and other things and there are no punches pulled, no attempt to sanitize it. that's what a truthful witness (thw bible) does. with that said, I feel that the author didn't need to show certain images so graphically, especially if this is geared toward younger readers. even if its meant for older kids the younger ones will still pick it up. specifically the stories of adam and eve (of course), ruth, and especially david and bathsheeba. I think the points could have been made in a less edgy way. now I don't feel like the images were meant to stimulate, but depending on who is reading, you never know, especially with younger kids. so parents be warned about that. I was able to "edit" my copy to lessen the impact a little, so that's an option.otherwise I love how the book flows and it is great as a supplementary reader. I sometimes have a very hard time reading especially long passages or those very involved sentences in pauls letters. Having a picture in my mind really helps me keep track of my thoughts. this book is great for that. there are lots of books passed over, but I understand that.another thing I like is how the gospels are combined into one narrative with a few parables of Jesus inserted in strategic places.overall, I really love this adaptation and enjoy reading it.

My oldest son, 11, does not like to read. We have tried all manner of things to get him to read, and finally discovered that he enjoys reading comics and graphic novels. My wife isn't a huge fan because she things he just looks at the pictures, but I started asking him about the books (some of which are based on books I've read) and he could tell me about what was happening much more than if he just looked at the pictures.So I decided to give this a shot since he doesn't really read his Bible unless we are doing family devotion. I gave it to him and he had finished it in just a few days. He wouldn't put it down. More importantly we were able to talk about the stories told in this book.For what it is I think it is great. It isn't something that can replace your or your child's Bible but it can be read along side the Bible. It is a great tool for a parent looking to get their child to read the Bible without it feeling like a punishment. We were able to have great discussion because of it and my son seemed to truly enjoy it.He's actually read it through 2 more times since and it is starting to get a "worn" look, which is great if you ask me.

With lively Anime-style depictions of Biblical Events, this is a useful tool to reach young people. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5, is that it gives some of the Biblical text and then refers the reader to the Bible for the rest - but that isn't actually a bad thing, really, since it would be impractical to do an entire Bible in one manga-style book. My teenaged son who is schooled in the Bible endorses it!

Young women I gave these to really enjoyed them. They don't have any Bible knowledge to amount to anything, but the got into these.

This book is awesome! I think I will order another one for a friend. So far, it seems to follow the actual Bible (which is a must!). The pictures and captions are great. The only thing that I didn't check before ordering the book was the actual size and measurements. It is a little smaller than I expected... this is most likely the case because when I peeked into the book online, they enlarge it.... the book is the size of a typical novel... not a typical bible which is a little larger.All in all, I have no complaints! Great purchase!

This Manga-illustrated Bible was positively received as a gift to a non-practicing believer whom I love very much. The recipient loves Manga, so this was a great gift. It is a complete Bible, not an abridged version.

I could not wait for my review copy, so I raced out and bought one, and was not disappointed! It was a 3-night read, and what a read! I have read almost all of Alison Pearlman’s previous books (she is admittedly a long-standing friend), but this one went way beyond my expectations. May We Suggest: Restaurant Menus and the Art of Persuasion was clearly in the spirit of Roland Barthes’s Mythologies – specifically I am thinking of his short but delectable pieces on “Soap Powders and Detergents,” “Steak and Chips,” and “Plastic” – but Pearlman’s book is altogether genre-bending. And there is nothing rhetorical about it; it is all substance, treating the inconsequential menu as the spine of the dining experience. So, to call it even post-Post-structural (with a tongue buried deeply in my cheek) does not do it justice. You’d have to go back to some of the entries in Walter Benjamin’s Arcades Projects – but this time I’m not going to tell you which ones – to find anything so finely written, so intellectually bracing, so informative, and so much fun to read. Its pages define a pleasure emporium Samuel Taylor Coleridge himself might have envied. It is filled to repletion with details and flourishes about the subtle (and not so subtle) politics and sociology of food, from the sublimations of dinner (great for someone such as myself who is always dieting and failing at it) to the secret delights of submission when it comes to experiencing the far side of the tasting-menu. This is coming no less from someone who revels in the menu at Arturo’s here in New York (although in the end I always order the Fiesta), not to mention John’s Pizza on Bleecker St., and who just recently dined privately in the ‘wine cellar’ at Massimo Bottura’s Osteria Francescana in Modena, boasting three Michelin stars and recently rated the top restaurant in the world, where even the president of France finds the food fit to eat – where the spoken menu, not to mention the fragrances sprayed from afar via ancient glass vials, vies with any of John R. Searle’s speech acts and de Saussure’s classic parole. Pearlman’s book is a marvel, and don’t let my silly, over-the-top, over-intellectualizations deter you from indulging your culinary appetites, from the basest to the most sublime, from the most unseemly to the most cognitive or obscure, and what will surely be one of your more exotic reading experiences. Pearlman knows how to go high and how to go low when it comes to menu analytics. This is the manual of menus to end all such previously nonexistent manuals. Enjoy what Barthes would have described, if he were still adrift in the streets of Paris, this analytical paroxysm, raising the lowly menu, as Pearlman has surely done, to the status of a poignant monument. Alison Pearlman has done for the menu what Mark Kurlansky did for salt and what Jared Diamond did for guns, germs, and steel!

And half a dozen more talents, like alertness to trends in the trade or the neighborhood.It is primarily not about the design of a restaurant building, but of the most important item within it: the menu, in both senses. That is, the piece of printed information in your hands and the actual food that it purports to describe. Regulars often will not bother with a menu; they know what they want; or will forgive poor ambience if the food (the menu) is genuinely good and cheap.As I say, the book will not tell you how to do things, but it will tell you how others have dealt with them, and does so in clear often elegant and sometimes witty prose --- everything about the design of the menu (paper or plastic?): its size: a single page slip or a volume ?; its font choices and color, the placing of items on the page, even the possibility of an invisible menu where you conspire with the chef to see what he can create from what was in the market that day.If you cannot learn from this book and its masterly survey of what menu has meant from Appleby’s to Nozawa Bar (where the bill came to over $200 each), you should certainly try an easier trade. This plastic canvas stitch dictionary was recommended to me by a friend as an excellent resource. So I ordered it sight unseen. And I am so glad I took a chance. Although I consider myself experienced, this will be a great resource to me as I make projects such as tissue covers.It is the subtle details that count when I am stitching a solid color. I am eager to try out some of the stitches in this book.

Amazing. This is my new go to book for plastic canvas & making my own projects. It brings a touch of class to a craft that can be a bit kitchy. The instructions are simple, comprehensive and most importantly easy to follow. A must have for any one who loves crafting with plastic canvas!

This stitch dictionary is a treasure. My partner and I both enjoy plastic canvas and have recently felt comfortable trying more complicated projects or adjusting patterns. This is a wonderful resource for understanding new stitches and supplementing the instructions on the patterns themselves, which often assume knowledge or offer only a basic direction. As we're interested in creating our own patterns ultimately, I suspect we'll return to this resource regularly.

Easy to follow stitch instructions. Chose plastic canvas as a starter sewing project for the children who were asking to do cross stitch and needle point. They were inspired by the many different stitches and quickly moved into using the stitches to make their own designs. Very pleased with this inspiration. There are a few sampler projects in the back that use the stitches in the dictionary but it is mostly a dictionary of stitches with easy to follow graphics.

I knew a few stitches from previous needlepoint, and only a couple from plastic canvas activities. Wow, after Christmas, I will have a blast trying new stitches. I plan to make Christmas villages for my 3 grand daughters, and they are going to be more interesting with this stitch dictionary to help me up my game.

I like that it shows so many stiches to make, I wish their were more projects in the book, but I guess I have to be a little more creative on my own.

This book has tons of patterns that can be used by themselves or to fill in the backgrounds of other designs. From easy to more complicated.

This is a great book to have if you create your own patterns like I sometimes do. Many ideas that I had never thought of before. Even if you mainly follow already created patterns then this book is helpful in enhancing those patterns and making them your own.

Excellent!

As soon as I opened the book one of the pages came off. I was very upset.

This was assigned reading for my graduate level course in health communications. Admittedly it was a little hard to get into (not sure if it was because I had to read it or if it was a bit thick). I'm glad a got past the beginning introductory and descriptive stuff because the rest of the book was great! It offers a different perspective on health communications and really stimulated my thinking about how to use the media and how the media is used. I found the examples Wallack, et al., used were the most educational in understanding media advocacy and public health.

This is a short book about the benefits of using zinc carnosine to treat ulcers. The authur, Dr. Georges Halpern is an MD with a PhD in Pharmacy. The book is divided into three sections 1. Peptic ulcer disease, 2. A short history of ulcer treatments and 3. A natural approach to treating ulcers tha focuses mainly on zinc carnosine.. Zinc carnosine and PepZinGI has been prescribed in Japan for treating ulcers for many years. Dr Halpern describes it's use for treating ulcers as well as a healing agent for the stomach lining a well. It is a well written book that offers a good natural treatment< with documentation, for ulcers and potentially other stomach irritations.

Some excellent patient outcomes have been obtained, using the Zinc Carnosine supplements discussed in this book. The science presented is solid and credible and the Zinc Carnosine has worked well for erosive gastritis and peptic ulcers, with considerable relief occuring in days.One patient who had been on acid blocking medications for years required Vitamin B12 injections to treat her pernicious anemia.At least one published study found zinc carnosine can reduce or prevent damage to the intestinal lining, caused by indomethicin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Measurements of urine Rhamnose to Lactulose ratios revealed zinc carnosine reduced excess intestinal permeability. Gut. 2007 February; 56(2): 168-175.Since Zinc, Copper, Manganese and Molbdenum all compete with each other for absorption, testing for levels of all of these minerals would be wise, if Zinc Carnosine is continued for more than two months, since the recommended daily dose used in studies is 150 mg of Zinc daily.Extended self medication with Pepto Bismol, can produce Bismuth toxicity and most of the symptoms of fibromyalgia.Steven Sponaugle

The book makes a good case that zinc carnosine protects the stomach lining of people with ulcers. It follows that it would also protect the lining of other parts of the GI system, such as the esophagus. I got the book because of my concern for someone with Barrett's esophagus. He is now taking zinc carnosine (at the dose recommended by the author) twice a day. The author says to take it for only eight weeks, but what if one needs it indefinitely? I wish I had more information about zinc carnosine and Barrett's esophagus.

I bought this book to support all the research on the internet about solving the gastritis issues using zinc Carnosine. My stomach is soooo much better now. I also take Aloe Vera and Mastic too.

Somewhat hard to prove HOW MUCH this has helped my chronic stomach pain since I altered my diet for the better around the same time I started using this, but I believe it reduces the pain. I will stick with it.

This booklet is more or less a couple of chapters from "Ulcer Free!" by the same author. I would just get that instead as this one doesn't add anything to it and the latter is an excellent book on the subject.

Great little booklet, lots of information. Still there are lots of questions it does not answer.
